Bringing new life into the world is a magical thing, but it doesn’t always feel that way. While you may be lucky enough to enjoy some perks, like glowing skin, luxurious locks, and a cute baby bump, you’re also going to see the downsides of pregnancy – swollen ankles, newfound tiger stripes, waves of nausea, and a rollercoaster of mood swings. Often expectant moms often aren’t looking or feeling their best, they may question whether they should take maternity photos at all. Being a mama myself, I have can tell you, that the only thing I enjoyed about my pregnancy was feeling the little one kick inside. But as I reflect back on that time in my life, I wish I would have had it documented better. Selfies and some iphone photos really don't do it justice.
Even if you don't feel that glowy pregnancy journey, you should still make sure to have maternity photos taken. Your body is doing an incredible thing, and that in itself is worth documenting. Believe it or not, you are going to miss pregnancy (or at least one aspect of it). If you are pregnant right now reading this I can see you rolling your eyes! But I am here to tell you that one day you will look back and miss your bump. Absentmindedly rubbing your belling, feeling that little life turn over inside. As someone who thoroughly detested being pregnant, I can say I do miss that.
Once the who pregnancy experience is over and done with photos will help you look back on that time in your life, and from a new perspective. We are so hard on ourselves when we are going through something, it is nice to look back and give old us a pat on the back for creating a miracle.
Aside from reflecting back on pregnancy, it is also nice to get maternity photos done so you can feel good and beautiful right now! Like I've mentioned a few time above, your body is doing an amazing thing! Amazing things are hard work, and can leave us feeling exhausted and not feeling our best. A maternity session is the best pick me up for an expectant mama! Seeing photos of yourself after your shoot will give you a boost of confidence and help you show yourself some love and grace in this transitional time of life.
During your maternity session you can show as much, or as little as you want! Everyone wants to experience their maternity session in a different way! While I love taking maternity photos that show your bare belly, I understand that is not everyone's wish. I offer a variety of gowns in my client closet for maternity sessions for those wishing to wear something special without having to go out and purchase it just for a photo session. I also do maternity boudoir for those wishing to document their bodies in a more natural way! Both are beautiful, and both are worth doing! In the end, it’s about making you comfortable and happy with your pictures.
